LEGO 725-2 Freight Train Set was a 425 piece Trains set released in 1974. It consists of a freight train and was the first 12V train line and includes a locomotive and four cars including a caboose.
Freight Train Set is an extremely old and very rare LEGO set. We have not seen set 725-2 currently for sale online or in the hundreds of retail stores in good/new condition in over 2,899 days. Because of the rarity of this hard to find set the current estimated value of $1,830.24 might actually be much lower than the true value, assuming this set can be found for sale.Because Freight Train Set is a very old set from 1974, finding it in a sealed and good condition might be difficult thus making the true value even that much higher.

“The Lego 725 Freight train set is the first deluxe train set in the 12 volt line; it contains a mind blowing amount of 425 pieces! Of those 425 pieces the set included 60 pieces of tracks and 5 train wagons, the main train engine, coal wagon, tipper wagon, oil tank, and... More passenger wagon. In my opinion, I think this set looks a little bland, the trains have no color scheme, and they are rather bulky looking. Not the best on this list, but it gets things started.”

About Trains 4.5V / 12V

In 1972 LEGO released the 4.5V and 12V train sets as part of the Blue Era which was named because of the rail color. These train sets used additional conductor rails mounted between the standard 4.5V rails and 12V motors contained in the same housings as the 4.5V motors, but with additional metal contacts attached to the bottom of the housings.

4.5V / 12V consists of 83 sets that ran from 1972 to 1986. As of today, 7750 Steam Engine with Tender is the most valuable 4.5V / 12V set with an estimated new/factory sealed value of $6,699.
