“The supplementary set from the Lego Technic series includes, among others, a gearbox for the electric motors. With this gearbox, the electrical drive could be reduced. The transmission’s value is 1:20. This means that if the drive rotates 20 times on its axis before... More transmission, it rotates only once on its axis after transmission. The gearbox blocks were suitable for both 4,5 Volt motors (as in the supplementary set no. 870) and 12 Volt motors (as in the supplementary set no. 880).”

About Technic Supplementary

TECHNIC is one of The LEGO Company's main lines based on creating detailed model machines and mechanical toys with specialized beams, axles, gears and connectors and primarily designed for older children and adults. The theme was first introduced as the Expert Builder series in 1977, but was officially renamed as TECHNIC in 1984. TECHNIC is still an active theme, and is one of the longest running themes in LEGO history. While most TECHNIC sets are vehicles that use pieces to mimic real vehicles, such as engine pieces, suspension, pneumatic, and transmission pieces, the TECHNIC parts have been used by various other System themes as well as LEGO Mindstorms.

Supplementary consists of 18 sets that ran from 1977 to 1997. As of today, 877 Steering Gear Parts is the most valuable Supplementary set with an estimated new/factory sealed value of $185.
