LEGO 2000 / Baby Sets

In 2000 LEGO released 14 Baby sets. The largest Baby set from 2000 was 2592 Baby Mickey & Baby Minnie with a piece count of 18 and a retail price of $19.99. The current estimated value of all these Baby sets from this year is about $512.03 which represents a 358.4% growth.

The Baby theme is designed for very young children and was first released in 2000 as part of the DUPLO style theme. It the predecessor of DUPLO Primo theme (1995-1996) then the LEGO Primo theme (1997-1999). LEGO Baby was discontinued in 2006. The bay parts where not that compatible with standard LEGO bricks since the bricks are larger to prevent babies from swallowing them. However, standard bricks of the same length and width can be attached to the bottom of Baby bricks and adapter pieces are also available.

2000 LEGO Sets

The turn of the millennium was an important year for LEGO. Not only did LEGO produce some investible sets for 2000, we saw some transition in the company. First, set designer and the inventor of the minifigure, Jens Nygaard Knudsen, retired from The LEGO Group. Second, The British Association of Toy Retailers name the LEGO brick "Toy of the Century". With 2000 LEGO released just a couple of new themes including TECHNIC Roboriders and Race. The Rock Raiders, Nijna and the Slizer/Throwbots themes were discontinued.
