LEGO 2008 Sets

2008 was yet another great year for LEGO collectors and investors. 2008 saw a staggering 286 sets released, not including gear or books, with 21 promotional and not for retail sets.

Based on the 286 sets released for that year, the retail value was $10,276.32 with a current value of $67,691.37 for the combined new/factory sealed sets. As of present, the best performing theme for 2008 is currently Architecture which has seen an average annual growth of upwards of 12% to date. All together 2008 saw the release of sets covering 20 themes and 58 subthemes with City having the highest release count of 45 sets.

In 2008, LEGO celebrated the 30th Anniversary of the Minifigure. It was also the 50th Anniversary of the LEGO Brick. This year also marked the release of LEGO Cuusoo which eventually paved the way for the highly collectable LEGO Ideas theme. In 2008, LEGO and LucasFilm released the Indiana Jones theme, making it the second LucasFilm theme to be released along with Star Wars. Notable set's in 2008 LEGO released the now infamous Green Grocer (10185-1) which started the investments of other collectable modular building for decades to come.
