In 1987 LEGO released 10 Fabuland sets. The largest Fabuland set from 1987 was
3682 Fire Station with a piece count of 149 and a retail price of $39.75. The current estimated value of all these Fabuland sets from this year is about $4,986.62 which represents a 3302.4% growth.
The Fabuland theme included sets that depicted the land of Fabuland and introduced Fabuland Figures, characters with human-like bodies with various animal heads. Fabuland was the first LEGO theme to introduce named characters that focused around a story and was the first LEGO theme to feature licensed products such as storybooks, playing cards, children’s clothing and animated TV series to enhance the playing experience through storytelling and role play. The FABULAND figures have heads of a mammal, a reptile or a bird sometimes topped by a peaked hat, and arms and legs with motion very similar to LEGO minifigures.

In 1987, LEGO continued its trajectory of innovation and expansion. A significant highlight of this year was the introduction of the LEGO Technic Computer Control, which allowed enthusiasts to combine traditional LEGO building with basic programming. This set marked one of LEGO's early forays into blending physical brick construction with digital technology, laying foundational stones for more advanced robotics and programmable sets in the years to come. The DUPLO line, designed for younger children, saw consistent growth, reinforcing LEGO's commitment to catering to various age groups.
