Since the eary 2000's, LEGO has released a number of magnets amongst many popular themes. While most magnets consisted of standard minifigures attached to magnet bricks, others were brick based structures. Each set consisted of one or more magnets, which allowed them to be attached and displayed on metal surfaces. While most magnet sets are not playable, they have become some favorites for collectors based on their rarity.
Initially, magnet sets could be acquired in licensed third-party products and in minifigure collections in various forms. The latter first appeared in 2006 with small powerful magnets in each minifigures feet, but a few years later this changed to sets with 2X4 bricks with a built-in magnet and then later to the minifigures being glued to the bricks.
