BYGGLEK is a collaboration between the LEGO GROUP and Sweden-based furniture/storage company IKEA. It is only available in IKEA stores. BYGGLEK combines the Swedish words ‘build’ (BYGGa) and ‘play’ (LEKa). BYGGLEK boxes with lids are sold separately. It consists of 200 bricks in various colors, shapes, and sizes, plus a brick separator tool and an inspirational folder.

“40357 BYGGLEK contains around 200 pieces and is designed to encourage creative play with the boxes. Like regular Classic sets, this one does not build anything in particular so the box gives an indication of the parts inside and inspirational pictures showing that can be... More done with them. It would not be right for the storage boxes to be sold in IKEA without an accompanying set of bricks to put in them and use them with, so this fulfils that need.”

“As a concept, Bygglek is great. Unofficial storage boxes with studded lids have been around for a while so it's nice to see them being produced officially. But as much as I hate to say it, the idea is poorly executed with function playing a very obvious second fiddle to... More form. If the recessed areas on each side had been omitted that would be a small saving grace but as it stands the shape naturally invites you to pick the box up at its weakest point.”

“There are no instructions included in the BYGGLEK kit. However, you get a leaflet with some basic design ideas. The kit is akin to a brick box from the Classic theme, just packaged differently. As such, the build-time is however long you choose to spend on it. For that... More reason, I will not rate this set based on build-time value this time around. Suffice to say, I spent a lot of time futzing with these bricks and seeing how they work with the storage boxes. It was fun.”
