LEGO set 8858-2 Auto Engines was a 460 piece Expert Builder Technic set released in 1980 in the United States. The set features instructions for 4 different engines including a 3 cylinder inline engine, a V6 engine, a 6 cylinder horizontally opposed engine, and a 2-cycle engine. The details for each engine feature reciprocating rectangular pistons, spark plug wires, and belts all from TECHNIC parts.
Auto Engines is an extremely old and very rare LEGO set. We have not seen set 8858-2 currently for sale online or in the hundreds of retail stores in good/new condition in over 1,445 days. Because of the rarity of this hard to find set the current estimated value of $862.16 might actually be much lower than the true value, assuming this set can be found for sale.Because Auto Engines is a very old set from 1980, finding it in a sealed and good condition might be difficult thus making the true value even that much higher.

About Technic

TECHNIC is one of The LEGO Company's main lines based on creating detailed model machines and mechanical toys with specialized beams, axles, gears and connectors and primarily designed for older children and adults. The theme was first introduced as the Expert Builder series in 1977, but was officially renamed as TECHNIC in 1984.
