In 1979 LEGO released 6 Duplo sets. The largest Duplo set from 1979 was
045 Farm with a piece count of 65 and a retail price of $13.50.
The LEGO DUPLO theme was introduced as far back as 1969 and is designed for children ages 1 to 5. It features DUPLO figures which are much larger than minifigures and DUPLO blocks which are about twice the length, width, and height of a standard System brick. Like LEGO System, DUPLO also has subthemes that are often junior versions of System themes, like Pirates and Castle and licensed themes like Disney and Super Heros.
1979 LEGO Sets
In 1979, LEGO introduced the Fabuland theme, targeting younger children with a blend of larger parts and regular LEGO bricks. The theme featured anthropomorphic animal characters and provided a storytelling aspect. This year also saw the expansion of the LEGO Space theme, with additional sets being added. Furthermore, the LEGO Castle theme was launched, offering medieval-themed sets with castles, knights, and related elements. These developments in 1979 contributed to the diversification of LEGO's product offerings.
