About Exclusive FIRST LEGO League
FIRST LEGO League is a robotics program run by FIRST together with the LEGO Group, in which teams take on science and technology challenges with robots they build from LEGO. It began in 1998 as a partnership between Dean Kamen, the founder of FIRST, and the LEGO Group's Kjeld Kirk Kristiansen, and LEGO first produced sets for it in 2001.
2002 LEGO Sets
2002 was a mixed year of success and experimentation. Star Wars dominated with Episode II: Attack of the Clones sets and collector favorites like the Imperial Star Destroyer (10030), while the Western theme’s Fort LEGOredo (6762) gained long-term appeal. New themes included Spider-Man, Island Xtreme Stunts, and expanded Racers sets, but LEGO also faced missteps with Galidor and Spybotics—both short-lived departures from traditional building. Core themes such as Star Wars, Harry Potter, and Alpha Team remained strong, making 2002 a year of both breakthroughs and lessons learned.
