The LEGO Angry Birds Movie licensed theme was released in April 2016 and based and released along with the movie The Angry Birds Movie which was in turn based on the Angry Birds video games and apps by the company Rovio. From LEGO's official description: "Now you can replay all sorts of adventures from LEGO® The Angry Birds Movie! Just like the movie and the mobile game, LEGO® The Angry Birds Movie sets have all your favorite characters fighting over the eggs. Can Red help the Angry Birds save their eggs from the pigs"

2016 unveiled Nexo Knights, fusing medieval motifs with digital-era gear and app tie-ins. Licensed highlights included the Ghostbusters Firehouse Headquarters, while Creator delivered showcase builds like the Volkswagen Beetle (10252) and Big Ben (10253). Long-running lines such as Legends of Chima had recently closed, as LEGO refocused on new concepts and adult display sets.
