The LEGO Minecraft theme is a collaboration between Mojang and the LEGO Group, based on the video game Minecraft. Created by Swedish programmer Markus "Notch" Persson, Minecraft was later developed and published by Mojang and Microsoft. The first set, Minecraft: Micro World – The Forest, was released in 2012 under LEGO Ideas through the LEGO CUUSOO program. The theme officially launched in 2013, and at MineCon that year, LEGO announced a new wave of minifigure-scale Minecraft sets.
2023 LEGO Sets
In 2023, LEGO launched several major original and licensed themes while strengthening its digital ecosystem. LEGO DreamZzz debuted as a fantasy-driven world of imaginative creatures and vehicles tied to an animated series. The new LEGO Icons branding unified premium display sets under one banner, appealing to adult collectors. Sonic the Hedgehog and Gabby’s Dollhouse joined the lineup, expanding LEGO’s reach across gaming and children’s entertainment. LEGO Star Wars celebrated its 30th anniversary with commemorative sets, while the company advanced digital and retail expansion through immersive LEGO experiences worldwide. Sustainability research continued, with LEGO confirming it would not pursue recycled PET bricks due to performance limits but reaffirming its long-term commitment to greener materials and packaging.
