“For a promotional set that came out in 1999, against all odds, the Shell convenience store is a great set. I would recommend the store for every classic town (as long as the town-owner considers 1999 sets 'classic').”

BrickEconomy Member Review
“This LEGO Shell Select Shop set is a nostalgic and charming addition to any collection, offering an impressively detailed representation of a convenience store. With its transparent blue skylights, realistic refrigerator, and rare accessory pieces like the classic bicycle, this set stands out in displayability and playability. While the build features some larger bricks typical of the late '90s, and the sticker application can be a bit tedious, it’s still a fantastic set that captures the essence of a small-town shop.”

About Town Shell

The LEGO Town / Shell theme of 1999 included sets such as 1256 Shell Service Station and 1255 Shell Car Wash, representing a partnership between LEGO and the Shell oil company. This collaboration began in the 1960s, with LEGO producing sets that featured Shell branding, including service stations, tanker trucks, and race cars. This relationship aimed to create realistic urban and racing environments in LEGO Town sets, incorporating familiar real-world brands to enhance the play experience. The partnership also included promotional sets available at Shell gas stations.

Shell was introduced in 1999 and currently consists of 5 sets. As of today, 1256 Shell Service Station is the most valuable Shell set with an estimated new/factory sealed value of $113.
