“This set also contains far more pieces (mostly yellow and black) than the 733 or 722 sets. The 744 uses larger wheels than does the 733 or 722, allowing larger creations (my favorite was a big moon-patrol exploration-type vehicle). It was a great set for those transitioning... More into the Technic realm, as it combined the best of the two worlds of Lego models and Technic sets.”

Basic Sets or Universal sets were part of the LEGO Basic theme, which began in the 1970s, was designed to be a more general, non-thematic series of sets. Unlike the themed sets that revolve around specific stories, characters, or concepts (e.g., space, city, or pirates), the Basic theme provided a collection of standard LEGO bricks and pieces, often in a variety of colors. The goal was to encourage free building and creativity without the confines of a specific theme or narrative.

Basic Set consists of 8 sets that ran from 1977 to 1989. As of today, 372 Texas Rangers is the most valuable Basic Set set with an estimated new/factory sealed value of $1,348.
