LEGO 8429 Helicopter is a Technic set released in 2002, containing 147 pieces. The model is a small single-seat helicopter with linked main and tail rotors that turn simultaneously through the Technic drivetrain. It was designed to be compatible with the 8720 motor set for optional motorization. The set is a re-release of Technic set 8812 Aero Hawk II Helicopter, which was first issued in 1994.

“The Helicopter from the Lego Technic series is a small model built out of relatively few parts. Once again, due to the number of parts, one can’t expect for it to have many functions. But nevertheless, it is somewhat disappointing that only the two rotors can be moved. All... More in all, it gets four stars in the overall rating. In 1994 the Helicopter was sold with item number 8812.”

“The rotors' rotation is driven by an input crank on the left side. This crank drives a set of 8 and 24 tooth gears. The 8 tooth gear drives the main rotor. The 24 tooth crown gear meshes with a second 8 tooth spur in turn drives another such set. The last axle runs back... More to a set of 8 and 24 tooth gears which reverse the gear ratio of the previous set for the tail rotor. Both main and tail rotors turn at the same rate, with a ratio of 3:1 with respect to the input crank.”
