Insights

A short-run Gear item from 2017, City Playmat trades on modest post-retirement interest driven by the broad City theme, and its accessory classification plus laminated cardboard makes sealed examples rarer and condition-sensitive. Lack of exclusive minifigures and common accessory overlap temper longer-term upside.

Facts

The set includes five laminated, double-sided cardboard playmat pieces featuring LEGO City scenery.
Each playmat piece measures 10×10 inches, or about 25×25 cm, matching the size of a standard 32×32 baseplate.
The playmat pieces can be rearranged for different settings.
The set also includes ten small buildable play starters for creating and displaying city models.

“While the #853656 LEGO City Playmat are made of cardboard, like some of the previously released playmats, they have one very unique feature; instead of being one foldable mat, they are made up of five connectable pieces. Because the five pieces are printed with different... More terrains on both sides, and can be connected in a variety of ways, a single playmat set can provide over 50 layout variations.”
