“Set 8852 was released in 1987 and was the only set available that year. This set is a truck which features rack and pinion steering. When a crank in the rear is turned, the upper chassis rotates upwards and the wheelbase shortens, transforming the vehicle into a robot.... More This is the only Technic set ever made with this theme and was almost certainly influenced by the popularity of the Transformer series.”

“The Robot from the Lego Technic series is one of the most unusual models of all. So far this is the only model of its kind. Similar to the well-known Transformers, a lorry is converted into a robot or, of course, vice versa. However, this transformation function is kept very... More simple. After the first transformation it’s not as fun because the model has no further functions. In total, there are four stars in the overall rating.”

About Technic

TECHNIC is one of The LEGO Company's main lines based on creating detailed model machines and mechanical toys with specialized beams, axles, gears and connectors and primarily designed for older children and adults. The theme was first introduced as the Expert Builder series in 1977, but was officially renamed as TECHNIC in 1984. TECHNIC is still an active theme, and is one of the longest running themes in LEGO history. While most TECHNIC sets are vehicles that use pieces to mimic real vehicles, such as engine pieces, suspension, pneumatic, and transmission pieces, the TECHNIC parts have been used by various other System themes as well as LEGO Mindstorms.
