LEGO Samsonite 846 Piece Basic Set

LEGO 846 Piece Basic Set is a Samsonite Basic Set released in 1972, containing 846 pieces. Distributed exclusively through Sears in the United States, the set was packaged in a plain brown cardboard mailer box rather than a retail display package, as it was sold primarily through the Sears catalog. It included a large assortment of standard bricks, plates, and specialty elements designed for creative free-building.

Produced during the final years of Samsonite’s LEGO license in North America, the set reflects Samsonite’s emphasis on large bulk assortments over themed sets. Promotional materials for the set featured model suggestions such as a brick-built clown and circus-themed vehicles, demonstrating the versatility of the included parts. LEGO 846 Piece Basic Set stands as one of the last major Samsonite-produced LEGO sets before The LEGO Group resumed direct distribution in the U.S. market in 1973. Based on current trends, this set could be valued near $427 within the next year.
