Aquanauts was the first subtheme in the Aquazone theme from 1995 to 1996. The story consisted of the Aquanaut miners, a group of miners based at the Neptune Discovery Lab, fighting against the villainous Aquasharks and their leader Thresher for control of the crystal mines. The first generation of sets consisted of a yellow base color to the subs which gave the Aquanauts a more realistic appearance to real submarines.
1995 LEGO Sets
In 1995, LEGO celebrated its rich heritage with the company's 60th anniversary and the LEGO brick's 40th anniversary. However, despite these milestones, the mid-90s marked a time of introspection for LEGO as the toy market's dynamics were shifting. The year saw the introduction of the LEGO Technic CyberMaster series, which combined traditional building with computer technology, hinting at LEGO's future direction towards integrating tech with bricks. Additionally, LEGO faced challenges with increasing competition and needed to evolve its product range, foreshadowing significant changes and innovations in the coming years.
