Licensed gathers the LEGO Games board games based on film and comic licenses, five of them from 2010 to 2013. 3862 Harry Potter Hogwarts came first in 2010, a castle whose layout keeps shifting while players visit their classrooms. Two followed in 2012. 3866 Star Wars: The Battle of Hoth has 32 microfigures with tiny AT-ATs and Snowspeeders, and 3920 The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey is a memory game set in Hobbiton. The Hoth game was not sold in the USA, where Hasbro held the license. 50003 Batman and 50011 The Battle of Helms Deep were the last two, in 2013. All five are played with microfigures.
2013 LEGO Sets
2013 introduced Legends of Chima, a heavily promoted fantasy line positioned as Ninjago’s successor, complete with a companion TV series. Licensed debuts included Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, The Lone Ranger, and new DUPLO tie-ins for Jake and the Never Land Pirates and Mickey Mouse. Collectors pursued the ultra-rare Mr. Gold minifigure from Series 10, limited to just 5,000 worldwide. This year also marked LEGO’s shift from 4-digit to 5-digit set numbering as Monster Fighters, SpongeBob SquarePants, Cars, and Dino concluded.
