2013 LEGO Sets

In 2013 LEGO proved once again to be a supurb year for collectors with the release of 530 sets, many highly sought after. This included 85 promotional and special released sets in addition to the 445 retail sets released through LEGO.com, the LEGO store and various other retail channels.

Based on the 530 sets released for that year, the retail value was $17,650.66 with a current value of $135,600.61 for the combined new/factory sealed sets. As of present, the best performing theme for 2013 is currently The Lord of the Rings which has seen an average annual growth of upwards of 13% to date. With the 58 sets that year, the Minifigure Series theme had the most released sets.

2013 introduced Legends of Chima, a heavily promoted fantasy line positioned as Ninjago’s successor, complete with a companion TV series. Licensed debuts included Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, The Lone Ranger, and new DUPLO tie-ins for Jake and the Never Land Pirates and Mickey Mouse. Collectors pursued the ultra-rare Mr. Gold minifigure from Series 10, limited to just 5,000 worldwide. This year also marked LEGO’s shift from 4-digit to 5-digit set numbering as Monster Fighters, SpongeBob SquarePants, Cars, and Dino concluded.
