21103 LEGO Ideas The DeLorean Time Machine

This was the fourth LEGO CUUSOO product called Back to the Future Time Machine created by m.togami (Masashi) and released as set 21103 The DeLorean Time Machine. It was a 401 piece Ideas exclusive set with 2 minifigs including Marty McFly and Doc Brown.

As a CUUSOO project it received its first 1000 supporters on the 17th of November 2011 and reached the magic 10,000 supporters at the end of April 2012 passing LEGO review on the 20th of December 2012. It was originally on sale at San Diego Comic Con in July 2013 with a global release of August 1st 2013 and later released in Japan September 13th.

From the LEGO review team: "As we're approaching the 30th anniversary of Back to the Future, this project could not have come at a better time. Congratulations on achieving 10,000 supporters. We now officially advance this project to the Review phase."

It was retired in December 2014 with a lifespan of 16 months. The current value for a new and sealed The DeLorean Time Machine is estimated around $175 today with current average yearly gain of about 15% but will level off in the next year closer to a 9% annual growth making it a solid investment. On the secondary markets the typical price range for the set MISB/NISB is between $166 and $192. On the open market, a used set will fetch in the range of between $100 and $132 depending on the condition.
