LEGO The Simpsons is a licensed theme introduced in 2014, based on the popular animated TV sitcom created by Matt Groening for the Fox Broadcasting Company. The Simpsons theme was released to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the show. In addition to the sets in the theme a series of blind bag minifigure collections (71005 The Simpsons Series and 71009 The Simpsons Series 2) were released as well as a Homer Simpson & Krusty the Clown BrickHeadz. A LEGO-themed Simpsons episode aired in May 2014, called Brick like Me at around the same time of the theme's release.

2014 was a very important year for LEGO. With the release of The LEGO Movie at the beginning of the year, LEGO was introduced to a whole new generation and population of LEGO lovers, collectors and investors. In addition to the movie, LEGO celebrated the 15th anniversary of LEGO Star Wars and even more important was the decision to continue the Ninjago theme which was originally slated to be discontinued. 2014 also gave collectors the minifigure-scale Minecraft theme based off the widely popular game.
