LEGO 10231 LEGO Space Shuttle Expedition is a 1,230 piece exclusive set with 3 minifgures released in 2011. Shuttle Expedition is a re-release of 10213 Shuttle Adventure and was first available to LEGO Ambassadors at LEGOLAND Billund.

Shuttle Expedition is a partially redesigned version of set 10213, Shuttle Adventure, which LEGO released in 2010. Released in the summer of 2011 the set is largely a strengthened 10213. The main changes are to the main fuel tank, landing gear, Canadarm, and cargo doors. Most of the changes are small, but the change to the main fuel tank is large, adding a long gray assembly between the SRBs and the main fuel tank. This makes the vehicle stronger but visually less realistic. The landing gear retracts, the cargo doors open, you can access the cockpit and fit the two astronauts inside, you can separate the different parts of the rocket assembly (SRBs, main fuel tank), you can "launch" the satellite with the arm, and you have a modest launch pad for holding the entire package.

It was retired in April 2013 with a lifespan of 22 months. Today's value for a new, sealed Shuttle Expedition is estimated around $483, with an average yearly gain of 7.5%, expected to level off to around 3.9% in the coming year. On secondary markets, the typical price range for the set MISB/NISB is between $446 and $505. Current used prices for Shuttle Expedition range from $177 to $251, depending on the set's condition, with an average price of $199 for those in good overall condition.

“As an avid NASA fan, I believe LEGO certainly did there homework on this set. Obviously, this model isn't perfectly like the real NASA shuttles, but I believe LEGO did everything that they could to capture the image of the space shuttle and its legacy.”

“Lego has done a great job with the shuttle in my opinion. They put in a lot of features and fun into the design. It is quite playable. You can blast off, drop the rocket boosters and then the external fuel tank. Once in orbit deploy the satellite. Return to Earth and lower... More the landing gear. As the real space shuttle is being retired, it appears to be good timing that Lego released this set. It is a great set to get if you are a space shuttle fan and don't have the previous space shuttle sets. I'd recommend it.”

About Advanced Models Space

The Creator Advanced Models space sets focus on the space theme with two versions of the NASA Space Shuttle know as Shuttle Adventure and followed by Shuttle Expedition. While the 2 shuttle sets looked very simular the builds were very different.

Standing 17.5" (44cm) tall and 10" (25.5cm) from wing tip to wing tip, this detailed and realistic space shuttle is ready to count down and blast off on its next exciting mission into space! Since its release in 2010, 10213 Shuttle Adventure has proven to be very popular! Although the model was designed for a 16+ target audience, our consumer call center has brought to our intention that many younger children have been building and playing with the model. As a result, the Direct team has decided to look at the model once more to see what changes could be made in order to provide a better build and play experience for a slightly younger target audience.

10231 Shuttle Expedition may look similar to Shuttle Adventure in many ways, however its build is very different and offers several advantages.
