Technicopedia
“The 8480 Space Shuttle orbiter from 1996 is the model that got me hooked on Technic and the model I would keep if forced to get rid of all the others. Some of this attachment is no doubt nostalgic, but the model is spectacular in its own right. Besides being the first (and... More only) space themed model from the Technic line, this model just has everything. It was only the second motorized model other than a Universal Set, and as a single model it was able to focus more fully on optimizing the motorized experience.”

Technic-Dialog
“An absolutely high-quality and great model from the Lego Technic series. The Space Shuttle offers a multitude of functions, which are remarkable given the relatively small number of parts. Also the detail and size of the model are impressive. The Space Shuttle is certainly... More even more fun to assemble and play with. Conclusion: more than recommendable!”

The Plastic Brick
“This is an amazing large Technic model where you get to build a Space Shuttle. The Shuttle has landing gear, and arm to launch or repair satellites. There's a motor and lights too.”

About Technic

TECHNIC is one of The LEGO Company's main lines based on creating detailed model machines and mechanical toys with specialized beams, axles, gears and connectors and primarily designed for older children and adults. The theme was first introduced as the Expert Builder series in 1977, but was officially renamed as TECHNIC in 1984. TECHNIC is still an active theme, and is one of the longest running themes in LEGO history. While most TECHNIC sets are vehicles that use pieces to mimic real vehicles, such as engine pieces, suspension, pneumatic, and transmission pieces, the TECHNIC parts have been used by various other System themes as well as LEGO Mindstorms.

LEGO TECHNIC "FOS Light” Space Shuttle. This magnificent model has two motors. The LEGO TECHNIC motor controls four functions: Open the hatches (1), lifting the Canadian Arm (2), turning it (3) and the FOS Light (4). The micro motor unfolds the satellite’s wings (A). If that's not enough you can build a gigantic submarine instead and use the motors for other incredible functions.
