“The Lego 149 Fuel Refinery is one of the larger Lego structures of the 4.5 and 12 volt lines. At a staggering brick count of 328, it just has as many pieces as a deluxe train set! As Lego does, this is another promotion for the shell gas corporation. Just getting a little... More off topic, but before the year 1992, Lego has been using shell for all their gasoline, or power related set it would have shell, but after 1992 Lego created the fictional Octan gas company for their new lines.”

“LEGO Set 149: Shell Fuel Refinery from 1976 is a fantastic vintage set with 328 pieces and three early-era minifigures. Though it lacks a train car, the set includes a detailed fuel refinery with unique Shell branding, a tanker truck, and even a functional fuel hose for added play value. The iconic eight-pronged antenna and clever use of pipes make it a standout design for its time.”
 

About Trains 4.5V / 12V

In 1972 LEGO released the 4.5V and 12V train sets as part of the Blue Era which was named because of the rail color. These train sets used additional conductor rails mounted between the standard 4.5V rails and 12V motors contained in the same housings as the 4.5V motors, but with additional metal contacts attached to the bottom of the housings.

4.5V / 12V consists of 83 sets that ran from 1972 to 1986. As of today, 7750 Steam Engine with Tender is the most valuable 4.5V / 12V set with an estimated new/factory sealed value of $6,957.
