“The good thing about this set is that the pieces are minimalist and allow for a lot of creativity while still making a good set. And the best part by far is the boat itself, which I have used in countless new creations based around a floating boat theme. Highly recommended.”

“The Riptide Racer is a powerboat in the new 96 LEGO Boats line. I think the elements were used well, and there certainly wasn't anything in the 53 pieces that was really not needed. From an objective standpoint, the Riptide Racer is pretty nice looking, it's sleek, fast and... More daring, which is not often the case with LEGO Boats.”

About Boats

The Boats theme was a LEGO System theme that ran from 1982 to 1996 and consisted of 12 sets. Unlike most town sets, the sets in the Boats, also known as Floating Boats, really did float in water. Initiakky the boats were made from single piece hulls but later sets introduced multi-hulled boats. After 1996 boats became part of the LEGO City theme.
Summary
Boats Riptide Racer set 4002 was released in April 1996, retailing for $13, but has since been retired. New, unopened Riptide Racer sets are valued at $124, while used sets can be found for $15 in good condition.
