The Nutcracker was distributed to LEGO employees as part of the annual Christmas gift. As 2017 marks LEGO's 40th anniversary of the Technic sets, the Nutcracker is primarily a Technic set. The box itself is shaped like a mini guardhouse for the nutcracker to reside in.Once the build is completed, there’s a lever at the back of the build to activate the nutcracking movement which also moves arms and mouth. It's also a large set in terms of size standing at about 20 inches / 50cm.

The card read: "In 2017 we celebrated both the company’s 85th birthday and the 40th Anniversary of the launch of LEGO® Technic. We bring these two milestones together in this special model – and add a touch of the festive Nutcracker theme as well. Enjoy!" The Nutcracker was the Christmas gift for LEGO employees for 2017.

The current value for a new and sealed Nutcracker is estimated around $331 today with current average yearly gain of about 22% but will level off in the next year closer to a 12% annual growth making it a solid investment. On the secondary markets, the typical price range for the set MISB/NISB is between $303 and $386. On the open market, a used set will fetch in the range of between $185 and $271 depending on the condition.
