Insights

Limited to in-store Mosaic Maker distribution, the Personalised Mosaic Portrait (2016) drew interest from buyers seeking a custom novelty but its lack of licensed characters or exclusive minifigures and the availability of alternative mosaic options have kept aftermarket demand moderate and somewhat volatile.

Set Facts

Despite the customizable nature of the Personalized Mosaic Portrait, LEGO has some restrictions in place on what kind of art pieces you’ll actually be able to craft. Licensed imagery and brand logos are just two of the limitations from LEGO’s software.

Brick Fanatics

“Another difference between the LEGO Art mosaics and 40179 Personalised Mosaic Portrait is that the former sets use 1×1 round plates, whilst the latter uses square ones. This provides better coverage altogether and doesn’t allow for any of the baseplate to be visible after... More it’s finished, but the main drawback is trying to get them to line up as squarely as possible.”

Full review at www.brickfanatics.com

“While building instructions are customized based on either the in-person photo taken in the Mosaic Maker booth or via an online design tool, the set contents are always the same. For in-person purchases, a printout of the instructions is provided. For online purchases,... More customers are directed to save digital copies of their instructions prior to concluding their use of the online design tool.”
