Lego Maniacs' Guide
“For only 39 pieces, you do end up with a surprisingly big ship, although this is mostly due to the large, slanting wing pieces. All in all, this is a good set, although it does exemplify one of the problems with the UFO sub-theme. When you get the set put together, you... More realize that only a very small percentage of it is plain brick. Between the pre-printed logo, mini-fig, computer tile, wings, and all the translucent parts, you end up with a very busy looking little ship.”

“The V-Wing Fighter is a compact yet creative set from the UFO Space theme. While its design may lack the sleekness of typical UFOs, it compensates with unique, jagged aesthetics and rare printed parts. The build is simple but engaging, offering good playability with its swooshable design and adjustable engines.”

About Space UFO

UFO was a LEGO Space subtheme of 1997 and 1998 about alien cyborgs in flying saucers with bright transparent green canopies. Its figures had printed cyborg faces and new helmets, and the ships used large moulded panels and dish shapes made only for this line, which gave them a look unlike any LEGO space ship before. 6900 Cyber Saucer was the largest, a full flying saucer, and smaller craft such as the V-Wing Fighter and the Cyborg Scout filled out the range. UFO ran alongside Roboforce and gave way to Insectoids in 1998.

UFO consists of 19 sets that ran from 1997 to 1998. As of today, 6979 Interstellar Starfighter is the most valuable UFO set with an estimated new/factory sealed value of $714.
Summary
Space UFO V-Wing Fighter set 6836 was released in August 1997, retailing for $4, but has since been retired. New, unopened V-Wing Fighter sets are valued at $61, while used sets can be found for $12 in good condition.
