LEGO 6919 Planetary Prowler is a Space Insectoids set released in 1998, containing 250 pieces and 2 minifigures. Also known as “Odonata,” the set builds a six-wheeled insectoid rover with a front cockpit featuring a printed control brick, opening windscreen, antennae, and eye elements, plus articulated legs including rear spring-mounted legs with wheels. The central section opens to reveal a power crystal and four hand-held lasers, with a radar and laser mounted on top. A small detachable vehicle with control sticks and thrusters docks at the rear, and the set includes Insector Leon and a Gigabot minifigure.

All-terrain arthropod. — “Planetary Prowler is essentially a single skinny vehicle, not at all typical of the way most Space vehicles are designed, and it manages to draw a fairly good balance between basic and specialized pieces, although, like most sets of the late-90s and early 2000s, it does seem... More to suffer from a slight bias towards fancy, single-use pieces. I consider Planetary Prowler to be fairly emblematic of the Insectoids line as a whole.”

“This is, arguably, one of the better Insectoids sets, but it is still guilty of the same crimes as the rest of the theme: large, specialized pieces, excessive preprinting, and somewhat goofy looking mini-figs. Having said that, the large legs in this set aren't nearly as bad... More as the wings that come in other sets.”

About Space Insectoids

Insectoids was a LEGO Space subtheme released in 1998 that consisted of 17 sets. The Insectoids story line was based on the cybernetic Zotaxians and their droids who fled their home planet of Zotax after a war with their leader. During the escape they crash landed on the massive planet Holox, but the planet was too hostile on the surface for survival so they tunneled underground and built cities. The Zotaxians owned vehicles called Insectoids that were insect-like in appearance and were desigend to escape the underground insects.

Insectoids consists of 17 sets that ran from 1998 to 1999. As of today, 6977 Arachnoid Star Base is the most valuable Insectoids set with an estimated new/factory sealed value of $444.
