Control Center 8094, released in 1990, was the first Universal set focus on functionality. It was the first set with multiple motors. Not only did it include the new 9V motor system, it had 2 of them. It contains an electronic box called the Control Center which was programmable and capable of powering up to 3 motors on 3 different channels. The Control Center is the heart of this set. It was the first programmable power system for LEGO motors, being the first set with a system for programming the models.

“The Control Center from the Lego Technic series is the first set with the large control unit. This unit is used to control the electric motors, and individual movements can be saved as a program, which can then be played back as often as required. The crane is from my point... More of view the best model of the set, so I have built it and rated accordingly. With only two motors, a lot of functions are achieved. The reason for this is that the raising and lowering of the boom and the jib has been realized by a special technique in which the motor always rotates in only one direction.”
