LEGO 8459 Pneumatic Front-End Loader is a Technic set released in 1997, containing 591 pieces. “The Power Machine with Pneumatic Tank from the Lego Technic series belongs in my opinion to the best models ever. The assembly is already quite complicated and requires great concentration. There’s also the fact that it looks so much like the original, which, given the... More relatively low number of parts, is impressive. Thanks to the air tank which stores compressed air, the pneumatic pump does not have to be used again for each movement. This guarantees lots of fun, also because the Power Machine is very robustly built. A really well-made model that more than deserves its highest rating. Maybe that's why Lego released the model three times? In 2001 and 2004 the Power Machine was sold with item number 8439. The 2004 model does not differ much from the other two models, except that a few parts were replaced (the short black axle, which then had two notches, and the pneumatic cylinder).”

“Set 8459 is nearly the perfect Front End Loader. In fact, it is so good that it was re-released in two future years. The list of firsts and bits of scale accuracy are large. There had been many front end loaders before, but this is the first and only pneumatic version.... More It is the first with four wheel drive and the first Technic model with an articulated chassis. It does nearly everything right including the scale range of motion, scale cabin, drive system, steering wheel, and accurate side and rear details.”

About Technic

TECHNIC is one of The LEGO Company's main lines based on creating detailed model machines and mechanical toys with specialized beams, axles, gears and connectors and primarily designed for older children and adults. The theme was first introduced as the Expert Builder series in 1977, but was officially renamed as TECHNIC in 1984. TECHNIC is still an active theme, and is one of the longest running themes in LEGO history. While most TECHNIC sets are vehicles that use pieces to mimic real vehicles, such as engine pieces, suspension, pneumatic, and transmission pieces, the TECHNIC parts have been used by various other System themes as well as LEGO Mindstorms.
