LEGO 8460 Pneumatic Crane Truck is a Technic Tech Build set released in 1995 with 850 pieces. It features four-wheel steering controlled by overhead knobs styled as warning beacons, deployable supporting legs, and a rotating crane superstructure with a double-acting pneumatic boom for raising and lowering. The model uses six 20x30 balloon tires. It was later reissued as 8431 in 2002 and 8438 in 2003 under the name Mobile Crane.

“The Crane Truck from the Lego Technic series is another well-made model. Out of 841 parts a beautiful model of a crane with all the important functions can be built. In order to lift the crane arm as far as possible, two cylinders were directly connected for the first time... More in the Lego Technic series. The model is not very large, so that the entire technology was installed in a very small space. The crane truck offers a lot of fun already during assembly and even after completion. A great model, which absolutely deserves the highest rating. The crane truck was sold again in 2002 with item number 8431 and in 2003 with item number 8438.”

“This marvelous crane, released in 1995, seemed strangely unpopular. I recall seeing it in catalogs for years and not being terribly interested for some reason. Perhaps the photos did not do it justice. I finally purchased it when it was on clearance and could not have... More been more delighted with what I got. This huge model is absolutely packed with functions. It does pretty well everything you would expect a real mobile crane to do. It has 4 wheel steering with a 6 wheel chassis. There are 4 outriggers which can actually lift the model. A pair of pneumatic actuators in series lift the boom which can then telescope with a crank. The hoist employs a ratcheting mechanism.”

About Technic

TECHNIC is one of The LEGO Company's main lines based on creating detailed model machines and mechanical toys with specialized beams, axles, gears and connectors and primarily designed for older children and adults. The theme was first introduced as the Expert Builder series in 1977, but was officially renamed as TECHNIC in 1984. TECHNIC is still an active theme, and is one of the longest running themes in LEGO history. While most TECHNIC sets are vehicles that use pieces to mimic real vehicles, such as engine pieces, suspension, pneumatic, and transmission pieces, the TECHNIC parts have been used by various other System themes as well as LEGO Mindstorms.

This three axle vehicle includes four wheel steering, supporting legs and a pneumatic crane arm that can be turned, raised, lowered.
