LEGO 8709 Underground Mining Station is a Power Miners set released in 2009, containing 637 pieces and 4 minifigures. It was a limited-edition Toys R Us exclusive featuring an underground mining station with a zip line for crystal transport, a crystal chute, a large searchlight, a dynamite hurler, and a cable-pulley system moving an orange bucket. The set includes Power Miners characters Rex and Duke (versions 1 and 2) plus the rock monster Geolix, along with a small mining truck with a tilting bucket. An alternate model, the Rubble Rescue Rover, can also be built.

A new and sealed Underground Mining Station is currently valued at around $553, with annual growth of approximately 8%. The average used price is $228 for those in good overall condition. Based on current trends, this set could be valued near $594 within the next year.

About Power Miners

Power Miners was a LEGO theme released in 2009 and was the successor to Rock Raiders and was generally set in underground caverns. Two generations of the theme were released, in the first generation, Power Miners are deep in the crust of the Earth where they fight the Rock Monsters. In the second generation, Power Miners have drilled into the volcanic recesses of the Earth's core where team faces the Lava Monsters. The theme was discontinued in 2010.
