RCX Programmable LEGO Brick currently ranks #6 out of the top most owned sets in Mindstorms 1.
About Mindstorms 1

This is the first generation of LEGO Mindstorms, built around 9719 Robotics Invention System from 1998. The name came from Mindstorms, a 1980 book by Seymour Papert of the MIT Media Lab, whose research on programmable bricks led to the RCX, the yellow brick at the centre of the kit. It holds a small computer with three motor outputs and three sensor inputs, and programs written on a PC went to it by infrared through a tower plugged into the computer.
1 consists of 20 sets that ran from 1998 to 2004. As of today,
9747 Robotics Invention System is the most valuable 1 set with an estimated new/factory sealed value of $205.

The RCX is a programmable microcomputer that is used as the "brain" in robotics systems. It can control motors and take measurements with different sensors while a program made in a PC is executed.
Contains 3 analog/digital inputs suitable for sensors, and 3 variable outputs.
9V powered, with 6 AA 1,5V batteries, or using a transformer (Ref. 9833) not included.
Able to storage up to 5 different programs of up to 1500 instructions.
Microcomputer: HITACHI 16K ROM, 512 Bytes SRAM + 32 K SRAM.
It also includes an small speaker capable to reproduce tones, and a cronometer,
It is possible to communicate one RCX with another RCX.
