Mindstorms

LEGO Mindstorms is a hardware and software system desigend for the development of programmable robots made out of TECHNIC bricks. The original LEGO Mindstorms Robotics Invention System was born out of a collaboration between MIT and the LEGO group's eductaional division. Since the release, there have been a number of generations of the Mindstorms platform: the original Robotics Invention System, NXT, NXT 2.0, and EV3 and weth each platform release, the motor and sensor capabilities have greatly expanded. Mindstorms are also sold and used as an educational tool and called Mindstorms for schools or Mindstorms Education.

Robotics Invention System (1)
This was the first generation of the LEGO Mindstorms platform also known as the original Robotics Invention System.

NXT
The LEGO Mindstorms NXT programmable robotics kit released by LEGO in July 2006, replacing the first-generation LEGO Mindstorms kit.

NXT 2
The LEGO Mindstorms NXT 2.0 was released in August 200 and was an upgrade of the original NXT platform and also introduced a new Color Sensor.

EV3
The LEGO Mindstorms EV3 was the third generation Mindstorms product and a major upgrade of the NXT platform being released in 2013.
