The Adventurers theme is based on an early 20th century exploration where the characters explore new areas, and go on adventures. All of the Adventurers sets, except for the Dino Island subtheme, take place in real-world locations, such as Egypt, the Himalayas, India, the Amazon rainforest, and China. Subthemes include Egypt/Desert from 1998 to 1999, Jungle in 1999, Dino Island in 2000 and the Orient Expedition in 2003. The Adventurers theme was discontinued in 2003 and replaced by the Pharaoh's Quest theme in 2011.
JungleJungle (also known as Amazon) was an Adventurers subtheme released in 1999. The story line is based on the Adventurers headeding into the jungle to find the ancient Sun Disc protected by the mysterious Achu where they are fighting against Señor Palomar and Rudo Villano who are also in search of the artifact.
EgyptEgypt was an Adventurers subtheme released in 1998. The Egypt sets were centered around Egyptian and various North African archaeology and culture. All the Adventurers have names related to weather such as Johnny Thunder, Dr. Charles Lightning, Gail Storm and many others.
The Egypt subtheme story line is based on the adventurers having traveled to Egypt to find the legendary Re-Gou Ruby, which is said to have magical power and is under the protection by the undead Pharaoh Hotep.
Dino IslandDino Island was an Adventurers subtheme released in 2000 and was based on the story line where the explorers discover a new mysterious island and discover that there are dinosaurs living on the island. Characters/minifigures in the Dino Island theme include Johnny Thunder, Mr. Cunningham, Dr. Charles Lightning, Baron von Barron and many other Adventurers' characters in addition to dinosaurs.
Orient ExpeditionThe Orient Expedition subtheme was released in 2003 and discontinued in 2005. The theme was about Johnny Thunder, Dr. Kilroy, Pippin Reed, and their new Asian friends going through Asia to find the Golden Dragon of Marco Polo and his three other treasures before the sneaky Lord Sam Sinister and his partners-in-crime did. This is was the last subtheme of Adventurers. Each set with more than 100 pieces came with stat cards and a piece of a game board that could be added to the Orient Expedition Board Game.
