In 2000, amidst significant transitions within LEGO, including the retirement of iconic minifigure inventor Jens Nygaard Knudsen, the Adventurers theme reached new heights with the introduction of the Dino Island subtheme. About LEGO Adventurers Dino Island

Dino Island was an Adventurers subtheme released in 2000 and was based on the story line where the explorers discover a new mysterious island and discover that there are dinosaurs living on the island. Characters/minifigures in the Dino Island theme include Johnny Thunder, Mr. Cunningham, Dr. Charles Lightning, Baron von Barron and many other Adventurers' characters in addition to dinosaurs.
2000 LEGO Sets
The turn of the millennium was an important year for LEGO. Not only did LEGO produce some investible sets for 2000, we saw some transition in the company. First, set designer and the inventor of the minifigure, Jens Nygaard Knudsen, retired from The LEGO Group. Second, The British Association of Toy Retailers name the LEGO brick "Toy of the Century". With 2000 LEGO released just a couple of new themes including TECHNIC Roboriders and Race. The Rock Raiders, Nijna and the Slizer/Throwbots themes were discontinued.
