LEGO Mursten is based on the original Automatic Binding Bricks from 1949. In 1952 the LEGO Group decided that they needed a more descriptive name for their brick sets and added the phrase LEGO Mursten, which translates to 'LEGO bricks' to the existing and new boxes, and in 1953 the sets were renamed simply LEGO Mursten.
1953 LEGO Sets
In 1953, LEGO rebranded its Automatic Binding Bricks as LEGO Mursten, or “LEGO Bricks,” marking the birth of the modern name. Sets began selling in Norway and Sweden, introducing LEGO to markets outside Denmark. This year also saw the first baseplates, 1x1 and 1x2 bricks, and the LEGO logo embossed inside each brick. New 700-series supplemental packs, including Windows and Doors assortments, expanded creative options and helped define the early System era.
