LEGO 10021 USS Constellation is a Hobby Set exclusive released in 2003, containing 973 pieces. The set builds a detailed display model of the U.S. Navy’s sailing ship USS Constellation, featuring brick-built masts, cloth sails, rigging, cannons, and a decorative display stand with a printed nameplate. It is a reissue of the original 1978 set 398 USS Constellation, produced with nearly identical design and part selection. The model captures the appearance of the 19th-century frigate with its multi-deck structure, bow detailing, and rigged spars, reflecting LEGO’s classic large-scale approach to historical ships within the Hobby Set line.

A new and sealed USS Constellation is currently valued at around $326, with annual growth of approximately 2%, which is lower than other Hobby Set sets. The average used price is $112 for those in good overall condition. New and sealed listings currently range from $321 to $417. Based on current trends, this set could be valued near $333 within the next year.

“The ship is a blast from the past, because the first release was in the late 70s. The model itself is very detailed. It has lots of SNOT guns, a bell and much more., but in this version there are none of the old small 1x1 windows, because they replaced them by 1x1 headlight... More bricks, which isn't that bad but slightly odd looking. The instruction, are sometimes difficult to follow, but hey the First edition of the USS Constellation was first launched in the so-called Hobby Sets range in 1978.”

“This ship’s known history changed between 1978 (Lego’s first edition of this set) and the 2003 reissue of this set. Back in 1978 it was thought the now still preserved museum ship was the original 1797 build ship, that underwent a thorough rebuild in 1854. But by the time... More the 2003 set came out, it was decided the 1854 rebuild was actually a completely new ship, with perhaps a few timbers used from the first ship.”

About Hobby Set

The Hobby Sets theme was an effort by LEGO to capture the attention of hobby shop buyers in the mid 1970s. Each of the Hobby Shop sets included enough pieces to build a miniture replica of each set. The initial run of the theme included 8 sets between 1975 and 1978 with one last set released in 2003. The first wave in 1975 was based on iconic cars, while the 1976 line included a train and two motorcycles including one past car.
Summary
Hobby Set USS Constellation set 10021 was released in September 1978, retailing for $60, but has since been retired. New, unopened USS Constellation sets are valued at $326, while used sets can be found for $112.
