“This sensor is more advanced when compared to the sensors packaged with the Mindstorms kit, and therefore is more difficult to use in programs. LEGO seems to have good support for this sensor. Note that this sensor cannot be used in FIRST Lego League competitions and the... More instructions recommend placing it ~4 inches or more from motors and the NXT brick.”

About Mindstorms NXT

The LEGO Mindstorms NXT programmable robotics kit released by LEGO in July 2006, replacing the first-generation LEGO Mindstorms kit. The kit also includes NXT-G, a graphical programming environment that enables the creation and downloading of programs to the NXT.

NXT consists of 30 sets that ran from 2006 to 2011. As of today, 8527 Mindstorms NXT is the most valuable NXT set with an estimated new/factory sealed value of $405.

Give your robot direction!

Using the NXT Brick (sold separately), the Compass Sensor is able to measure the earth's magnetic field and calculates a magnetic heading to tell which direction your robot is facing. The compass has a built-in calibration to help reduce magnetic interference from other sources.
