LEGO 2879 Desert Expedition is an Adventurers Egypt set released in 1998, containing 196 pieces and 5 minifigures. The set depicts a desert expedition scene with equipment and accessories, and includes named characters Harry Cane, Slyboots, Baron von Barron (also known as Sam Sinister), Dr. Kilroy, and a skeleton.

The set was later issued as 5948 and also as 5909, a value pack variant packaged with a mummy-shaped storage container for the North American market. This 2879 version saw a limited release in the United Kingdom at Toys “R” Us stores.

Egypt was an Adventurers subtheme released in 1998. The Egypt sets were centered around Egyptian and various North African archaeology and culture. All the Adventurers have names related to weather such as Johnny Thunder, Dr. Charles Lightning, Gail Storm and many others.

Egypt consists of 25 sets that ran from 1998 to 1999. As of today, 3722 Treasure Tomb is the most valuable Egypt set with an estimated new/factory sealed value of $1,840.
