LEGO 3740 Small Locomotive was a 67 piece Trains exclusive set released in 2001. It was part of the LEGO My Own Train collection and consists of a small push-powered locomotive with customizable colors including blue, green, black, brown, and dark grey. 3741 was the base element and did not include the color packs. The default color was blue. Markings on the box indicated the color of the locomotive which included bricks for 3743 Blue Bricks, 3744 Green Bricks, 3745 Black Bricks, 3746 Brown Bricks or 3747 Dark Grey Bricks.

“The Lego 3740 Small locomotive is not really a train set, then again, it’s not really a addition either, it’s a bit of both in one. This is the "My Own Train" Locomotive Kits, the set includes 67 pieces. Unfortunately, this set does not run on 9 volt rails, or on anything... More for that matter. It is just push power. The default color for the 3741 Large Locomotive, and 3742 Tender, is blue but with the 3743 – 3747 sets, you can change the color of the train from anything from green, black, brown, and dark grey. There is a larger version of this train and that one did not run on electricity either.”

About Trains 9V

LEGO Trains is one of the longer running themes that dates back from 1966 and ran up until 2006. During its run there were multiple sets released running on various power platforms from 4.5volt, to 9 and 12 volt sets. Later in 2011 LEGO released additional train sets using RC and Power Functions controllers under different themes like City.

9V consists of 67 sets that ran from 1991 to 2006. As of today, 4558 Metroliner is the most valuable 9V set with an estimated new/factory sealed value of $1,553.
