LEGO 6983 Ice Station Odyssey is a Space Ice Planet 2002 set released in 1993, containing 343 pieces and 3 minifigures. The set builds a research station on a unique raised baseplate exclusive to this set, along with a rocket transporter truck, a crane-equipped launchpad, two rockets with deployable satellites, and a small sled. The rockets use magnet elements so the crane can lift them from the transporter to the launch area. Before this review, I would easily have given this set an 8 or higher, but I guess the build factors in much more heavily to me now than it did before. If you get this for the build... “It's a station but there are also two vehicles that come with the set. One is a ski glider that has nothing to it but was nice to get with the set. The other is a ground vehicle on ten small wheels. The front section is for the driver and for storing a pair of skis. The back... More section is to hold a missile for transportation. This vehicle really helps out the overall set.”

About Space Ice Planet 2002

Ice Planet 2002 was a LEGO Space subtheme released in 1993 and released sets in two waves over a two year period before it was discontinued in 1994. A total of 10 sets were released. The Ice Planet 2002 story is based on a civilian space affiliation led by Commander Cold where they were conducting top secret research in rocket science on the hostile and icy setting of the ice planet Krysto.

Ice Planet 2002 consists of 10 sets that ran from 1993 to 1998. As of today, 6973 Deep Freeze Defender is the most valuable Ice Planet 2002 set with an estimated new/factory sealed value of $1,020.
