LEGO 8003-1 Volcano Climber is a Technic Robo Riders set released in 2000, containing 35 pieces. It builds a small wheeled vehicle for the Lava Realm and uses a head design similar to 8510 Lava. The set was also known as Lava Buggy. It was released in two versions, as set 1290 Lava Buggy for a Kabaya promotion and as set 8003 Volcano Climber.

“Building Volcano Climber was actually a little tricky; Not that there's anything wrong with the final build, but it requires holding a few finnicky bits in place to get there, and I don't think that would fly in instructions these days. Volcano Climber also has a few rubber... More bands, indicating some kind of function; these have survived well in their packaging.”

About Technic Robo Riders

LEGO Robo Riders (RoboRiders) was a TECHNIC theme launched in 2000 that were designed as robotic, anthropomorphic bikes, complete with a faceplate and special gear to suggest adaption to a specific environment. The Robo Riders succeeded Slizer and was replaced by BIONICLE in 2001 with only eight retail and eight promotional sets being released.

Robo Riders was introduced in 2000 and currently consists of 16 sets. As of today, 8516 Super RoboRider is the most valuable Robo Riders set with an estimated new/factory sealed value of $120.
