LEGO 8277-1 Giant Model Set is a Technic Tech Play set released in 1997, containing 554 pieces. It was designed as a starter-style multi-model set with instructions for three main builds: a helicopter, a robot, and a mechanical cat. “Make no mistake, this set is aptly named. Each of the 3 models is as physically large as anything ever released in the Technic line, and there are sixteen 16L Technic bricks included. Other than though, it doesn't have much going for it. The models are large, but generally... More don't have any more functionality than a micro model. The issue is probably that this set is really for beginners but the size of the set and box intimidated them into not buying it.”

About Technic

TECHNIC is one of The LEGO Company's main lines based on creating detailed model machines and mechanical toys with specialized beams, axles, gears and connectors and primarily designed for older children and adults. The theme was first introduced as the Expert Builder series in 1977, but was officially renamed as TECHNIC in 1984. TECHNIC is still an active theme, and is one of the longest running themes in LEGO history. While most TECHNIC sets are vehicles that use pieces to mimic real vehicles, such as engine pieces, suspension, pneumatic, and transmission pieces, the TECHNIC parts have been used by various other System themes as well as LEGO Mindstorms.
