LEGO 8479 Barcode Multi-Set is a Technic set released in 1997, containing 1,280 pieces. It introduced the Code Pilot, a barcode-programmable electronic brick unique to the set and an early precursor to the first Mindstorms RCX. The Code Pilot is a 12x8x4-stud unit with one 9V motor output and a single input port for a switch, enabling motorized control of the builds. The set also provides three alternate models: a planetary exploration vehicle, a motorized dune buggy, and a bi-pedal robot walker with a pistol grip controller, all operable through the Code Pilot.

“Once again a great model from the Lego-Technic series. The special thing about this garbage truck is that it can be programmed by a code board. Here all movements, their speeds and noises can be played and stored in a sequence; so that the truck executes the stored movement... More sequence after pressing a button. For example, this happens when it encounters a resistance with its grapple, in the middle of which there is a motion sensor. The grapple then automatically grabs and throws the "garbage" onto the loading area. An absolutely well-made model, which naturally receives the highest rating.”

About Technic

TECHNIC is one of The LEGO Company's main lines based on creating detailed model machines and mechanical toys with specialized beams, axles, gears and connectors and primarily designed for older children and adults. The theme was first introduced as the Expert Builder series in 1977, but was officially renamed as TECHNIC in 1984. TECHNIC is still an active theme, and is one of the longest running themes in LEGO history. This monster of a truck includes a new powerful LEGO TECHNIC electric motor and a barcode reader which allows functions to be read and programmed into the vehicle. Realistic sounds can be heard which are generated by the barcode, reader. The 8479 will build 3 other alternative models. There is the 6 wheeled truck with radar, a buggy designed for rough terrain and a robot.
