It was one of the first Technic sets to use the newer generation of pneumatic elements, with a single-acting pneumatic system that raises the fork through rubber tubing routed inside the beams. The set is also notable for including a long-stroke pneumatic actuator, a part that appeared in only a small number of Technic models during its short production period.

“Set 8843 was released in 1984 and was one of the first models to use the new pneumatics. This forklift features rear wheel steering as well as forks which raise, lower, and tilt. Raising and lowering is accomplished via the pneumatic cylinder and switch. Traditional... More studded construction and pinned construction are both used.”

“The Forklift Truck from the Lego Technic series is a well-made model. It’s the second forklift in the Technic series and one of the first models to feature pneumatics. A beautiful forklift is created here from relatively few parts, and the assembly gives the first taste of... More the fun which can be had with this model. Due to the still simple pneumatics technology the fork can only be raised and lowered very roughly. It rather jumps up or down, so smooth lifting and lowering is not possible. Therefore there are only four stars in the overall rating. The highlight of this model is the steering wheel.”

About Technic

TECHNIC is one of The LEGO Company's main lines based on creating detailed model machines and mechanical toys with specialized beams, axles, gears and connectors and primarily designed for older children and adults. The theme was first introduced as the Expert Builder series in 1977, but was officially renamed as TECHNIC in 1984. TECHNIC is still an active theme, and is one of the longest running themes in LEGO history. While most TECHNIC sets are vehicles that use pieces to mimic real vehicles, such as engine pieces, suspension, pneumatic, and transmission pieces, the TECHNIC parts have been used by various other System themes as well as LEGO Mindstorms.
