LEGO Mursten is based on the original Automatic Binding Bricks from 1949. In 1952 the LEGO Group decided that they needed a more descriptive name for their brick sets and added the phrase LEGO Mursten, which translates to 'LEGO bricks' to the existing and new boxes, and in 1953 the sets were renamed simply LEGO Mursten.
1949 LEGO Sets
1949 marked the beginning of LEGO’s transformation into a plastic toy company. The LEGO Group released its first plastic building bricks under the name Automatic Binding Bricks, the direct ancestor of the modern LEGO brick. Produced alongside traditional wooden toys, the range included several 700-series gift sets and introduced key elements such as the studded brick design. Though limited to the Danish market, these early sets laid the foundation for the LEGO System that would emerge in the 1950s.
